Berthena Nabaa-McKinney grew up in South Bend, Indiana. She relocated to the Nashville area in 1997 where she was the Director of several early childhood centers. After eleven years in the field, Berthena decided to make a career change by returning to school to pursue a degree in Biology at Tennessee State University. During her enrollment at TSU, she became involved in several organizations such as TLSAMP (Tennessee Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (mentor), officer in Biology, AMSA, and SNMA student organizations. She was actively involved in the University tutoring program. In addition, she was honored to participate in a research program with the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, MD.
Upon matriculation in December 2005, Mrs. Nabaa-McKinney accepted a position at Antioch High School teaching chemistry. She later joined the team of teachers that created the Freshman Academy and began teaching Physical Science. While at the Academy, Mrs. Nabaa-McKinney was involved as a member of the Implementation Team for Smaller Learning Communities, she is a site team member for AVID, Advisor for Student Council, Co-chair for Science Department, and developed and oversees the tutorial program for the Academy.
Mrs. Nabaa-McKinne love of science and strive for life-long learning coupled with her genuine care for student progress and growth has lead her to join the Cane Ridge community where she wants to play a major role in molding the ”future leaders of tomorrow.
Away from school, Mrs. Nabaa-McKinney loves to spend time with her husband, and three children. She is also currently working on her Masters in Administration and Supervision.
