Dr. Clariday was born in Bristol, Tennessee. She took ballet from the time she was 4 years until she was 12 years of age. During this time, she was in many of the dance company’s productions. In several of these, she was the only child dancer. She played the littlest angel in “The Littlest Angel”.
She attended Bristol Tennessee High School. She was a member of the band, a majorette for four years, a National Honor student, a senior superlative, and a class officer and the band secretary.
During her senior year, she was the first student allowed to take a college course while attending high school. She attended nearby King College. She completed a psychology course there and also played a flute solo in their musical Oklahoma. The next year, BTHS guidance office set up a program whereby 6 students were allowed to take college courses while attending high school.
She attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville where she majored in Biology. In 1976, she was one of 12 women selected to be in the very first class of 60 members in UTs College of Veterinary Medicine. She graduated in 1979 with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
She worked for Vanderbilt University in the Animal Care Department for 11 years.
She began teaching high school Biology in 1997 in Wilson County. She was Department chair of Biology and Outstanding Teacher of the Year at Lebanon High School in 2003. She transferred to Davidson County and began teaching Biology at Antioch High School in 2005. In 2008 she transferred again to the new Cane Ridge High School.
She married another member of this first graduating class, Dr. David Clariday. They have been married for 29 years. They have a son, Dr. Nathan Clariday, who has also graduated from UTs College of Veterinary Medicine. He practices with his father in the family- owned animal clinic. They also have a daughter, Jamie, who is a lawyer, practicing in Tokyo, Japan.
